HOLLYWOOD, CA — The first trailer for the fourth entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man franchise has released.
The MCU continues to build out in the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is no stranger as he has been featured in several Marvel projects including the Avengers franchise and Captain America: Civil War. Now, however, it seems Marvel is giving the webslinger an actual project that is his.
In Captain America: Civil War, Tony Stark recruited Parker for the famous airport fight and since, in the MCU’s Spider-Man movies at least, the Avenger’s influence has been felt in one way or another.
Then, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Stark was a featured character. In Far From Home, Tony Stark had already saved the universe in Avengers: Endgame but sacrificed himself. Then, in No Way Home, Dr. Strange was heavily featured.
At the end of No Way Home, Peter Parker allowed Dr. Strange to cast a spell to have the entire world forget who Peter was after the world found out that Parker was Spider-Man. The film ended with MJ and Ned going off to MIT and Peter getting an apartment to continue being Spider-Man.
In Brand New Day, we do see some familiar faces like Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, and, returning from Homecoming, Mac Gargan as Scorpion.
The official synopsis reads:
"Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he's devoted himself entirely to protecting the city - a full-time Spider-Man- but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a stranger new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced."
From the trailer, we see both Boomerang, Tarantula, The Hand, and a mysterious character more than likely played by Sadie Sink. Rumors are that she’ll play the MCU’s Jean Grey as the mutants are coming back in Avengers Doomsday. Also, it looks like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be going through a metamorphosis. In the above video, we see Parker in a web cocoon and without his mechanical web shooters. This would be the first time since Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man that we see organic webbing.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Daniel Destin Cretton, who directed Just Mercy and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The cast includes:
- Peter Parker/Spider-Man – Tom Holland (MCU Spider-Man Franchise, Uncharted)
- MJ Watson - Zendaya (Dune, Challengers)
- Ned Leeds - Jacob Batalon (The Wrecking Crew, Novocaine)
- Frank Castle/The Punisher - Jon Bernthal (The Bear, Wind River)
- Mac Gargan/Scorpion - Michael Mando (Better Call Saul, Elysium)
- Bill- Tramell Tillman (Severance, Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning)
- Bruce Banner/The Hulk - Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight, Foxcatcher)
Also set to appear is the aforementioned Sadie Sink (Stranger Things, The Whale) in a mystery role, Marvin Jones III (Halo, Black Lightning) as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, and rumored to appear is Charlie Cox as Daredevil, who would reprise the role in the MCU after appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
