Harry Potter Series Casts Harry, Ron, and Hermione

HOGWARTS — The Harry Potter HBOMax series has cast the famous trio, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.

HBOMax is casting their Harry Potter series which is meant to cover all seven books. A few characters have already been cast, but today we now know the three that will take on the mantle from the movies.

Harry Potter will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, while Ron Weasley will be played by Alastair Stout, and Hermione Grange will be played by Arabella Stanton. It has been reported that over 30,000 actors have auditioned for these three characters.

The trio will join:

  • John Lithgow (Harry and the Hendersons, Shrek) as Albus Dumbledore
  • Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) as Rubeus Hagrid
  • Janet McTeer (The Menu, Ozark) as Minerva McGonagall
  • Paapa Essiedu (Murder on the Orient Express, Black Mirror) as Severus Snape
  • Luke Thallon (The Favourite, Hamlet) as Quirinus Quirrell
  • Paul Whitehouse (The Death of Stalin, Corpse Bride) as Argus Filch

Whitehouse has actually played a character in the movie series in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Back to the magic trio, all three are basically newcomers, much like the original three in the movie series.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer. One of the show runners, Mark Mylod, has worked with HBO in the past, most recently directing episodes of Game of Thrones, Succession, and The Last of Us, some of HBOMax’s most popular shows. The other show runner is Francesca Gardiner, who wrote on shows like The Man in the High Castle, His Dark Materials, and Succession.

While the casting of Essiedu, and now Stanton, has brought and will bring out the worst in some on the internet, Rowling is working on the series. She started the entire Harry Potter universe and has been supportive of all the choices made so far.

Filming for the series is expected to begin during this summer, and more casting announcement will be made as there are still plenty of roles to cast.
