SAN ANGELO, TX — University Theatre at Angelo State University will present the popular musical comedy "Sister Act" for its first production of the spring, beginning Thursday, March 6, in the ASU Modular Theatre inside the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building at 2602 Dena Drive.
Show times will be at 8 p.m. each night March 6-8 and 13-15, with a Sunday matinee finale at 2 p.m. March 16.
Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for non-ASU students, and free for ASU students, Arts at ASU subscribers and ASU activity card holders. Tickets are available for purchase online at angelo.edu/boxoffice or through the ASU box office in the Carr EFA Building.
"Sister Act" is based on the hit 1992 Hollywood movie of the same title that featured Whoopi Goldberg in a starring role. A woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own. Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, "Sister Act" will leave audiences breathless. This uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The ASU production is being presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
Under the direction of Derek Rhein, instructor of theatre, the extensive ASU student cast includes Desirae LaBedelle, Janine Seale, Addie Gregoire, Brianna Kincaid, Jordan Chapman, Tyson Walls, Edmund Davies, Kirby Paugh, Zaiden Lopez, Mitchell Martinez, Lawrence Smiley, Breonna Casey, Catalina Perry, Kate Yantis, Tae Stephens, Mylo Brannan, Addison Smith, Alexis Crawford, BritNee Smith, Ja'Nae Wilson, Margarita Torres Fabela, Mia Harryman, Natalie Madrid and Emily Wagner.
The student production staff and crew include Kate Yanis, choreographer; Augustus James, stage manager; Lily Morgan and Zjay Wright, assistant stage managers; Samuel Molho and Margarita Torre Fabela, co-scenic designers; Emma Cullen, co-lighting designer; Mari Troncoso, assistant costume design/wardrobe supervisor; Charlotte Branch, sound designer/sound board operator; Analy Preciado, props designer; Atlas Carrasco, scenic painter; Aliajana Stewart, lead electrician; Chance Criswell, house manager; Demetrius Armstrong and Zoe Baumann, dressers; Melissa Surber, light board operator; and Ryan Ezelle, sound board operator.
The ASU staff production team includes Mayra Torres, costume designer, and Chase Phelps, co-lighting designer.
