SANTA FE, N.M. — Award-winning actor Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog were all found dead in their home Wednesday, Feb. 26, during a welfare check.
Foul play was not suspected, authorities said, but Hackman’s family have stated they believe carbon monoxide poisoning may be responsible.
Hackman, 95, Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their dog were all dead when deputies entered their home to check on their welfare around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Avila said.
Hackman was a five-time Oscar nominee who won for his role in The French Connection in 1972 and Unforgiven in 1993.
Hackman may be best remembered, however, for his role as coach Norman Dale in the 1986 movie, Hoosiers.
Other notable movies he starred in included Superman, The Firm, The Quick and the Dead, The Birdcage and The Replacements.
