Titled "Jazz in Motion," the concert is open and free to the public. It will feature the ASU Jazz Combos and the ASU Big Band performing a collection of classic and contemporary jazz and swing tunes. The ASU Jazz Combos will open the concert, setting the tone with dynamic performances showcasing the raw and intimate side of jazz. The ASU Big Band will then take center stage with an exciting repertoire, including:

  • "Bounced" - A rhythmic journey that will have the audience tapping along.
  • "La Shea's Walk" - Smooth and soulful, a tune to savor.
  • "Opus in Pastels" - Bringing a soft palette of colors and melodies to life.
  • "Shiny Stockings" - A classic tune that swings with timeless elegance.
  • "Bombastic Banana" - Expect high energy and a touch of humor in this lively piece.
  • "Basically Blues" - Grounded in the heart of jazz, this piece brings a satisfying blues vibe to the mix.

"Our lineup for this concert is all about capturing the energy and fluidity of jazz music, bringing each piece to life with its unique character and rhythm," said Dr. Trent Shuey, director of jazz ensembles. "With 'Jazz in Motion,' we aim to not only entertain, but also immerse our audience in the versatile spirit of jazz."

The ASU Jazz Combos feature students performing on trumpet, saxophone, trombone, guitar, piano, bass and drums. The ASU Big Band is made up of about 20 student musicians performing on saxophones, trumpets, trombones and tuba, as well as a full rhythm section.
