HOUSTON, TX — The music world is mourning the tragic loss of Justin Riley, better known as BeatKing or Club Godzilla, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 39. The news of his death was confirmed by his manager, Tasha Felder, in an Instagram post on Thursday, August 15. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.

BeatKing was a towering figure in the Southern rap scene, renowned for his energetic tracks that became anthems in clubs across Texas and beyond. His most famous hit, "Then Leave," released during the pandemic in 2020, went viral on TikTok, solidifying his presence on the global stage. The song quickly became a sensation, with millions of users creating content to its catchy beat, and even hip-hop icon Drake took notice, reportedly leading to a $3.3 million deal with Columbia Records.

Born and raised in Houston, BeatKing's musical journey began in the church, playing alongside his mother. He launched his career in 2010 with the mixtape Kings of the Club and continued to release hit after hit, earning the title "Club God" for his ability to command dance floors with tracks like "Crush," "SDAB," and "Hammer." His music, characterized by its infectious energy and commanding lyrics, became a staple in Texas nightlife, influencing the Southern rap genre profoundly.

Throughout his career, BeatKing collaborated with notable artists such as Bun B, Paul Wall, Lil Keke, and Chamillionaire, and even teamed up with Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J and the late Gangsta Boo. Following his death, artists and fans alike took to social media to express their grief, with Three 6 Mafia writing, "RIP MANE!!! GREAT BROTHER!!" Fans shared their sorrow and memories, reflecting on the impact BeatKing had on their lives and the music industry.

BeatKing was scheduled to perform at Koronazz in San Angelo, Texas, on August 30, 2024. However, the venue's owner, Lauren Hogeda, confirmed that the event has been canceled in light of the tragic news.

Hogeda said that the promoter for the San Angelo was Gary Lara. He could not be reached prior to publishing this article.

Beyond his music, BeatKing was known for his devotion to his two daughters, who survive him. His manager's heartfelt tribute on Instagram emphasized his love for his family and his fans, stating, "BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade... We will love him forever."
