Texas Native Actress Shelley Duvall Dies at 75

 

BLANCO, TX— Texas born actress Shelley Duvall, of “The Shining” and “Popeye” fame, has died.

Shelley Duvall, who played Jack Nicholson’s wife in “The Shining” and opposite Robin Williams in “Popeye,” has passed away at the age of 75 from complications from diabetes.

The actress, born in Fort Worth, won several awards for her work in films like “3 Women” and was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. According to Duvall, she suffered from mental illness after the role of Wendy Torrance took a toll on her emotionally due to the horror film's psychological content.

Duvall worked with many notable film and television producers and directors like Robert Altman, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton, Steven Soderbergh, Jane Campion, and probably one of the greatest, Stanley Kubrick.
