SAN ANGELO, TX — Patrick Scribner, a reader of San Angelo LIVE!, ventured to Lowe’s Home Improvement Center located at 5301 Sherwood Way in search of a fence post. While perusing the outdoor garden center for posts, Scribner noticed what appeared to be an owl out of the corner of his eye. Intrigued, he took a closer look.
“At first glance, I mistook it for a fake owl decoy. Then it blinked!” recounted Scribner.
As Scribner prepared to capture a photo with his iPhone, he was surprised to find the owl remained placid, making no attempt to fly away.
“It remained remarkably calm, just perched there,” Scribner described, managing to snap two photos with his phone.
Following some online research, it is presumed that among the 13 owl species reported in Texas, the owl in question bears a striking resemblance to the Western Screech Owl. Distinctive features such as its green eyes and the size of its “ears” align with this assessment. The Western Screech Owl is known to inhabit regions of west Texas. However, it is acknowledged that misidentification is possible, especially without the input of owl experts at such late hours. Therefore, the audience is invited to share their insights on the owl's species. Here are a good descriptions and photos of owls in Texas. The Texas Parks and Wildlife also examines owls in Texas, but not as large of photos.
Special thanks to Patrick Scribner for providing the captivating images.

PermalinkI don't know a lot about owls, but I spent 30 years on the SAPD and worked nights for 18 of those years. I would often see owls on fence post while driving around lake nasworthy area. They will just sat there and watch you as long as you don't get too close.

PermalinkProbably just manifestations of the Lake Nasworthy Entities that have been here since time immemorial. They watch San Angelo. They prank the base. I think that Lares Deces guy was one. You should contact The Owl Guy.

PermalinkOwls, as are all birds of prey, are magnificent creatures designed by God to be avian killers. They have a place in the natural scheme of things.
I recall years ago when I was in the wilds of Far West Texas and I was directed to the corpse of a Great Horned Owl that had been electrocuted on a power pole. It was much larger than I had expected. Even in death it was magnificent. Great, powerful wings... razor-sharp talons... lethal flesh-rippng beak. This creature was a killer, which some might think off-putting, but it had a purpose in Nature's plan.
It was beautiful.

PermalinkIt was not by Accident that a Kiowa Spirit Owl recently appeared at the San Angelo Lowes. The Spirit Owl of the Kiowa Tribe was non other than Maman-ti, Owl Profit of the Kiowa Tribe who once lived in the Concho Valley before being shipped to Florida and imprisoned there and dying there in 1875. The sighting of the owl is the harbinger of a Kiowa curse being placed upon Forked Tongued RINO in an upcoming election. Maman-ti has spoken, so shall it be.
