SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State University will present a guest artists performance by the Lone Star State Trumpet Guild (LSSTG) on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 32 N. Irving St. in downtown San Angelo.
Titled "Music for Trumpets Across the Centuries," the concert will also feature the ASU Trumpet Ensemble and is free and open to the public.
The repertoire for the concert will range from the antiphonal works of 16th-century Venetian composer Giovanni Gabrieli to modern works from this century, including new compositions by LSSTG member Bernie Scherr. Engaging works for the trumpet ensemble will be featured throughout the concert, along with two arrangements from the world of pop and jazz - showcasing the versatility and range of LSSTG musicians.
The Lone Star State Trumpet Guild began as an idea to include trumpeters in west-central Texas. Chartered in 2016, it held its inaugural Trumpet Fest event at Angelo State later that year. The LSSTG is one of the most active chapters of the International Trumpet Guild, featuring numerous high-level performances, presentations of new works for trumpets, and dedication to mentoring the next generation of trumpet players.
Members of the LSSTG come from a large area of west-central Texas that encompasses Abilene, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, and eastern New Mexico. These performers are the top players in the area's symphony orchestras, commercial/show groups, Broadway musicals, and brass chamber music, and they hold faculty positions at numerous universities.
