NEW YORK — The Red Raider Goin’ Band is scheduled to perform in the 97th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this Thursday, November 23, 2023, beginning at 8:30 a.m. EST. The event, a celebrated American tradition, will be broadcast nationally by NBC. Held in New York City, the parade route starts near Central Park at West 77th Street and culminates at the Macy's flagship store on 34th Street.
The parade, once a staple for families gathering around their television sets to watch popular shows and special events, continues its legacy, albeit with changes over time.
Featuring a diverse array of musical acts, including renowned national performers, dancers, cheerleading squads, and musical bands, this year's lineup boasts Grammy-winner Jon Batiste and the celebrated Cher, who recently released a Christmas album. Among the anticipated participants is the Lubbock Texas Tech band.
The parade is renowned for its 26 floats, along with giant inflatable balloons modeled after iconic cartoon characters such as Snoopy, Bugs Bunny, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Mickey Mouse.
Among the 10 marching bands set to perform is the Texas Tech Red Raider Goin’ Band. The Red Raider Goin’ Band is scheduled to perform “Wreck ’Em Fanfare,” a compilation of Texas Tech spirit songs.
Covering a route of 2.5 miles, the parade traverses most of Central Park West from 77th Street to Columbus Circle, continuing along Central Park South and then Sixth Avenue until Herald Square. The event will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock starting at 8:30 a.m. EST.
Enthusiastic Red Raider fans planning to attend the parade in person on Thanksgiving Day are encouraged to gather and create a cheering section for the Goin’ Band on the west side of 6th Avenue, between W. 50th Street and W. 48th Street. Double T's and pom-poms will be distributed (while supplies last) at the pep rally in Times Square on Wednesday for use as the band passes by.
