Documentary on Urban Meyer's Legendary Florida Gators Headed for Netflix

GAINSVILLE, FL — A docuseries that college football fans have been asking for is about to release on Netflix.

Untold: Swamp Kings, is a four-part docuseries based on the Urban Meyer Florida Gators football team that had Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Aaron Hernandez, the Pouncey Brothers, and other players on the team.

The synopsis for Untold: Swamp Kings reads:

This docuseries explores how legendarily ruthless football coach Urban Meyer turned the ragtag 2000s-era Florida Gators into a ferocious winning machine.

It seems like football fans have been looking forward to this for quite some time. The Gators had a monster team that featured some big-name players. The two most recognizable of course are probably quarterback Tim Tebow and tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Tebow was a first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He ended up bouncing around the NFL, most recently at tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars when they hired Meyer as their head coach. Tebow is now a college football analyst and talks at speaking events. His faith has always been important to him which made him a fan favorite in many households.

Hernandez was drafted in the fourth round by the New England Patriots and only had a three-year NFL career before shooting and killing Odin Lloyd. He was found guilty and eventually killed himself in prison. It did come out that Hernandez suffered from CTE, a chronic brain injury that effects especially football players.

Other players on the team that played during this time include Percy Harvin, Riley Cooper, Major Wright, Joe Haden, Ahmad Black, Will Hill, Janoris Jenkins, and at one point Cam Newton.

Of course, Coach Meyer ended up leaving Florida before landing the Ohio State head coaching job then he became the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for less than one season. During that time Meyer had hired a coach that had allegedly mistreated players at Iowa, partied at a bar after a loss with a woman that was not his wife, allegedly called his assistant coaches’ losers and reported kicked his kicker, Josh Lambo, which ended up getting him fired after a short season of hard times.

Untold: Swamp Kings debuts on Netflix on August 22, 2023.
