Familiar Face Returns in Frightening New Exorcist Trailer

HOLLYWOOD— A familiar face returns in a first trailer for the new Exorcist movie.

The Exorcist: Believer has dropped its first trailer and sees the return of Ellen Burstyn’s character Chris MacNeil from the very first Exorcist movie. This new movie looks to bring in Burstyn’s MacNeil for her “expertise” in possessions and exorcisms.

The synopsis reads:

“Since the death of his pregnant wife in the Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom Jr.) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear in the woods, only to return three days alter with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.”

The Exorcist: Believer, is produced by Jason Blum, whose production company “Blumhouse” is no stranger to reimaging horror films having brought the rebooted Halloween series and The Invisible Man to audiences recently. Sharing that connection with the Halloween trilogy, David Gordon Green, who directed the recent Michael Myers series, is also directing this new Exorcist film.

Speaking of shared connections, in the trailer, the demon in possession of Katherine, or possible both children, seems to recognize Burstyn’s MacNeil.

The Exorcist: Believer’s cast includes:

  • Ellen Burstyn (Interseller, Requiem for a Dream) as Chris MacNeil
  • Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) as Victor Fielding
  • Ann Dowd (Captain Fantastic, Our Brand is Crisis) in an undisclosed role
  • Lidya Jewett as Angela Fielding
  • Olivia Marcus as Katherine

The Exorcist: Believer is set to hit theaters on October 13, 2023, with possibly two sequels already in the works.
