NEW YORK— A featurette, or short informative video for the Max original series 'The Penguin' Batman spinoff was recently released.
After “The Batman” hit theaters, word began to spread about a possible series that followed Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, and his rise to the top of the criminal underworld in the Gotham City after the death of Carmine Falcone.
Later, network officials confirmed that Colin Farrell would return as the villain in the series and then several big names were attached to star in the show, mainly Clancy Brown, who played in The Shawshank Redemption and has voiced Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants, would be playing the other crime kingpin, Salvatore Maroni. Maroni was mentioned in The Batman but was not shown.
Other names attached are Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, along with Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Theo Rossi, Carmen Ejogo, Francois Chau, and David H. Holmes.
It has also been reported that Robert Pattinson, who played Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeve’s movie would be reprising his role in this show as well. That movie, along with The Penguin and subsequent sequels and other shows are all to build up the world that Matt Reeves created when he filmed "The Batman".
The Penguin began production in February this year in New York City and is expected to continue for several months.
No official release date has been revealed but the series will premiere in 2024 according to the featurette.
