HOLLYWOOD— The first trailer for the Disney+ Mandalorian spinoff Ahsoka has dropped.
While an official synopsis had yet to be releases, here’s what is known so far.
After making her live-action debut in The Mandalorian episode “The Jedi”, it was announced that Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson, would be getting her own show. Today, the first trailer dropped online and features many of the character that were in the animated Star Wars: Rebels.
That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as in the Mandalorian episode, Ahsoka was trying to hunt down Grand Admiral Thrawn, one of the villains in the Rebels show, and find Ezra Bridger, one of the main characters in Rebels.
There have been many nods to Rebels in the most recent season of The Mandalorian and in the last few years of the movies. Star Wars fans will recognize the Purgill, huge space faring creatures that can travel at light speed, and, most recently, a character from Rebels, the Lasat Zeb Orrelios, made an appearance in the episode “The Pirate”.
In Rouge One: A Star Wars Story, the droid known as “Chopper” from Rebels was seen in the background on Yavin-4.
The cast includes:
- Rosario Dawson- Ahsoka Tano
- Natasha Liu Bordizzo- Sabine Wren
- Eman Esfandi- Ezra Bridger
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead- Hera Syndulla
- Ray Stevenson-Baylan
- David Tennant- Huyang
- Hayden Christensen- Anakin Skywalker
- Genevieve O-Reilly- Mon Mothma
- Diana Lee Inosanto- Morgan Elsbeth
Mostly all these characters, at least the top four on this list above, were all main characters in Star Wars: Rebels.
Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian who did come to possess the Darksaber at one point. Wren was a cadet in the Imperial Academy of Mandalore before she became a rebel.
Hera Syndulla, a Twi’lek, is the pilot of the ship, “The Ghost”. She left home to lead her own faction of rebels against the Empire as she saw first-hand what they and the Clone Wars did to her planet.
Ezra Bridger is a Jedi padawan learner whose parents were killed. Bridger flirted with the dark side and even helped Darth Maul obtain a holocron. Bridger went missing with Grand Admiral Thrawn after the Liberation of Lothal when he used the Purgill to attack Thrawn’s fleet and jump to hyperspace with him and Thrawn still inside one of the ships.
While Grand Admiral Thrawn made an appearance in the trailer, fans can only speculate on who will play the strategic big bad. Lars Mikkelsen voice Thrawn in Rebels.
Ahsoka is set to premiere only on Disney+ in August.
