A San Angelo Native is the Lead Singer of Lonestar Performing Here Oct. 15

SAN ANGELO, TX — On October 15, San Angelo welcomes home native Drew Womack, headlining the Texas Strong Concert Series as a lead singer of the popular country music band named Lonestar.

If the name Drew Womack doesn’t ring a bell, his accomplishments certainly will. Growing up in Brownwood and in San Angelo where he attended Central High School, Womack came from a large blended family. He had two brothers that dabbled in the music business, so it was no surprise he followed in their footsteps. When his older brother was given a guitar for Christmas, Womack immediately began picking around and eventually joined up with a local band in San Angelo where he inadvertently became the lead singer after the original lead singer’s voice gave out during a concert.

From there, his passion for music became even more apparent. In 1989, Womack auditioned for the job of lead singer for a band called Sons of the Desert. After landing the job, Womack began booking gigs and managing the band, the early beginnings of his now full-time music career. As fate would have it, a canceled gig in Arlington eventually led to his band filling in for a band at the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville. Sons of the Desert were offered a recording contract that very day.

Though Womack’s tenure with the Sons just for a few short years, after leaving Sons, Womack continued fueling his musical soul by writing chart-topping songs, including Kenny Chesney’s first #1 smash hit “She’s Got It All” and “I Hope You Dance” by LeeAnn Womack (no relation). Womack also had the opportunity to collaborate with well-known artists such as Peter Frampton, Jack Blades and Tim McGraw. It would be a few more years of ups and downs in the music industry before Womack would join Lonestar, where he currently provides lead vocals and guitar for the band.

Lonestar, along with Drew Milligan from America’s Got Talent and The Stateline Band, will be in San Angelo for the Texas Strong Concert series on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the Bill Aylor Memorial RiverStage. Lonestar in San Angelo tickets can be purchased on Stubwire .
