BURBANK, CA – Disney+ released the much-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer Wednesday.
Fan favorite Ewan McGregor will be reprising his iconic role as Obi-Wan Kenobi from the prequel trilogy and the show will follow Kenobi’s life in exile after the fall of the Jedi in 2006’s Revenge of the Sith.
The official synopsis reads:
Ewan McGregor returns in the iconic role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi for a special event series on Disney+. Offically titled Obi-Wan Kenobi, the series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where he faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series is directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed memorable episodes of “The Manalorian” season 1, and features the return of Hayden Christiansen as Darth Vader.
Revenge of the Sith ended with Kenobi handing over a baby Luke Skywalker to his family on Tattooine. From the looks of the trailer, the series will be taking place on the desert planet Tattooine, a watery planet, and in a city that looks like it could be Coruscant, the city-covered planet where much of the prequels took place.
We also get a first look at the Inquisitors. In the Star Wars universe, the Inquisitors hunt Jedi in the aftermath of Order 66. They are everything the Sith are but don’t use the Sith moniker and are watched over by Darth Vader
Joining Ewan McGregor in the cast is Hayden Christiansen, who is returning as Star Wars’ iconic big bad Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Luke’s Uncle Owen and Bonnie Piesse as Aunt Beru.
New to the Star Wars universe is Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, Eternals), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit, The Tragedy of Macbeth), Indira Varma (Exodus: Gods and Kings, HBO’s Game of Thrones), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) Sung Kang (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Raya and the Last Dragon), Simone Kessell (San Andres, Frost/Nixon), and Benny Safdie (Good Time, Uncut Gems).
Obi-Wan Kenobi starts streaming on May 25, 2022, which is 45 years after “Star Wars: A New Hope” released in theaters.
