COVID-19: Fort Concho Cancels September Programs

SAN ANGELO, TX — Due to the ongoing COVID-19 issues and the desire to maintain public health and safety, Fort Concho will not hold its September weekday Speakers Series programs or the Archaeology Fair scheduled for September 19.

“Staff visited with our volunteers for both events and the unanimous feeling was to cancel these events and not place participants or guests in any danger,” Fort Site Manager Bob Bluthardt said. “We regret not being able to offer these very popular programs but the conditions remain difficult for group gatherings and events.”

Fort staff will be creating some online programs in the coming weeks as a substitute for the Speakers Series sessions.

“We look forward to having all our speakers return next spring when they can share their research in full,” Program Chair Joyce Gray said. Gray has chaired the event for more than 20 years.

Fort Concho remains open seven days a week for self-guided tours, Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The “Texas Icon, Charles Goodnight” display remains at the Barracks 1 Visitor Center for another month.

For more information, call the fort at 481-2646 or check the web site and Facebook page at fortconcho.com.
