Annual San Angelo Symphony Independence Day Pops Concert and Fireworks Show Canceled

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 4th of July pops concert is canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year’s event had been scheduled for July 3 in downtown San Angelo.

The annual Pops Concert and Fireworks Extravaganza held near the July 4 holiday is the most well-attended event every year at the Bill Aylor Memorial Riverstage in downtown San Angelo. Estimates are that as many as 10,000 people are gathered each year inside the Riverstage amphitheater or other areas around the location for the concert by the San Angelo Symphony and Concert Band. The music finale is capped with an elaborate fireworks display.

“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) health pandemic, the San Angelo Symphony has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 July 3rd Pops Concert and Fireworks Extravaganza. The safety of the San Angelo Symphony's audience, guest artists, musicians, staff, and volunteers remains our top priority. The timeline for national, state and local governments to allow for large gatherings at public venues, such as the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial Riverstage, remains very uncertain and the ability to practice social distancing is not practical for this type of large scale community event. Canceling the July 3rd Pops performance is the best way for the organization to do our part to protect our community,” the San Angelo Symphony stated in a press release.

The symphony expects to resume the July 4 pops concert and fireworks show in 2021.

“We are saddened to have to cancel this year’s performance and fireworks show,” stated Executive Director Courtney Mahaffey. “This is the first time that the San Angelo Symphony has had to cancel this longtime patriotic concert and although, we hope that the situation will improve by the time of the event, we do not want to risk bringing large groups of people together while health risks may still exist. This event has been our gift to the city and its citizens for so many years, showing our appreciation for their support during our 70 year existence.”

The annual pops concert is a high-profile event for the Symphony that sustains itself on donations and ticket sales to their seasonal events. Although the annual Independence Day event is free to the public, the Symphony will suffer a loss of revenue from sponsorships at the event.

Other Riverstage events scheduled this year are taking a wait and see approach. The annual Wild West Fest is scheduled for July 24 at the Riverstage. This concert usually features a top Texas Country Music band line-up. So far, organizers are mum on who will headline the event, but teased that the concert may happen July 24, if COVID-19 restrictions allow.

The question is, will many people show up after being shutout of restaurants and bars for two or three months if restrictions last that long?

The Riverstage complex sits on three acres. The City of San Angelo claims the capacity is 8,000 people.

For all you Bernie Bros, AOC fawners and rabid liberal Dems, how are you liking this current taste of socialism? Tyrannical local authorities dictating your every move, food supply chains disrupted, health care a mess, markets tanked, can't give oil away, living off government handouts. This IS socialism and this IS what Democrats want. Wallow in it.....

Mr Rutherford: Your comment is much more diplomatic than I would have been. It looks like it has returned to a somewhat normal shopping day at HEB. Being greeted with thoughtless rules and an armed security guard is somewhat disconcerting and depressing. Even sheep run from what frightens them. Apparently humans have lost that instinct and rational thinking has disappeared also.

..in 2013, Boston ordered a city-wide lockdown to look for one 19 year old kid. I don't remember many questioning the rationale behind this, but what was most memorable about this experiment, as with "9-11", was the demonstrable willingness of many people who so readily give up their rights when the government scolds that "it's in the interest of your safety".

After the SWAT teams and fully militarized police finished playing cops and robbers (and playing to the media), Bostonians took to the streets, not in protest, but to cheer and celebrate the fact that they were all herded into their homes, under threats of arrest, because a single 19 year old kid was hiding somewhere.

Fearful human herd animals also think as a collective, and will unanimously give up their rights, in bleak attempts at what they perceive to be noble displays of solidarity, for ''their own good'', of course.

Boston Strong, indeed.

Remember that one time some bad guy got snubbed by the same shady types who pulled off MK-ULTRA here in the States, so he had everyone running around in the desert, taking out posh copters and planes with rifles and blowing stuff up?

Of course, we rightfully got the scoundrel, but until the day he was taken to an afterlife of virgin livestock he was flipping those wild and crazy swamp creatures, and unfortunately the rest of us innocent bystanders, the big, fat bird.

He was like:

Seems like even American patriots all over flyover country get lumped in with that hell-raising goat defiler by the gun-grabbing Swamp these days.

Smh

Trump ran against Hillary, and the rest of the criminals in government (including Republicans). He probably would have run as a Democrat if Hillary was a Republican. This manufactured crisis isn't about parties. It's about pure evil.
Every state that has screamed the loudest for funding and every state that has tried to put everyone under house arrest are also the states that have the highest death rates from covid-19. These are also the states including one Texas city where the emergency military hospitals have been set up. The patients disappeared or where drastically reduced. The Emergency hospital set up in Houston had zero or near zero patients. I hope the person in this posted video can be discredited. It is horrible to listen. More people in the health care field seem to be stepping forward.
If the right to self determination is given up due to the fear instilled by government, we have given up our freedom for fear of our own mortality. I hope I am wrong.
