ABILENE, TX -- An off duty officer caught three howler monkeys during their attempt to escape the zoo on Sunday morning.

According to KTXS, on August 25, an off-duty officer was at the Abilene Zoo with his family when he noticed something unusual.

A group of three howler monkeys escaped their enclosure and got to the "highest tree in the jungle." Here's the video:

Once the officer noticed the monkeys, he went and found a zoo keeper.

According to a zoo spokesperson, a worker accidentally left the door open. The zoo said the monkeys were never a threat to the public.
