Santa's Santa Fe Christmas Kicks Off Saturday

SAN ANGELO, TX - With Christmas just a few short weeks away, Santa Claus will be super busy. However,  he wants to make sure he's able to see all good little girls and boys in San Angelo.

David Wood, President of the San Angelo Railway Museum, has known Santa for many years, and every year, for the last 21 years, Santa makes a special stop at the Santa Fe Depot located at 702 South Chadbourne.

This year, Santa will arrive by train on Saturday, November 26, at 10 .am.,  greet all of the children, but then will have to leave for a little while to go check on his elves and reindeer. (There is no charge for the morning's "meet and greet.")

Wood said, "Santa will return from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. that evening, and then be at the Railway Museum every Friday and Saturday evening until the end of the year, from 6 p.m. until  9 p.m., so children can have their picture taken with him. Also, each evening, the Christmas Craft room will be open so that kids and their parents can make homemade gifts and ornaments."

He added that, in the spirit of the season, the museum will feature prominent local people reading a Christmas Story in the Museum's library.

"The museum is a winter wonderland of Christmas decorations, and there are five rooms with model trains set up in celebration of our 21st Santa's Santa Fe Christmas," said Wood. The museum will also be open regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, except for December 24 and Dec 31.

Admission and fees are as follows: $5 for ages 12 and up, $3 for ages 4 to 12 and free for 3 and under. Military personnel and senior citizens will receive a discount upon request. Additionally, a photo with Santa is only $5, and the Craft Room is $1.

Wood noted, "This year we are raffling a new model train layout complete with trains, buildings and scenery.  Raffle Tickets are $5 each, and the drawing for the layout will be December 23. Also, everyone who enters will be eligible for a nightly drawing for a Christmas stocking filled with toys."

Your article on the Railway Museum of San Angelo's 2016 Santa's Santa Fe Christmas was great. Thank you so much. As an all volunteer organization it means a lot to each of us when we are recognized for the work we do for the community. Today 7 volunteers gave a special tour to two classes of Wall ISD Kindgarten students. Tomorrow 3 more classes will be coming. It is so fun to see the kids light up when the see the museum all decorated for Christmas.
