SAN ANGELO,TX - Halloween isn't just for kids anymore. Now your beloved pooch can get in on the festivities.
Jenie Wilson, Executive Director for Concho Valley Paws said, "This Saturday, October 29, will be our 6th Annual Howl-o-Ween Costume Contest for dogs."
For those who think they have the cutest dog ever, Wilson said, "They can register online, or the day of the event, beginning at 11 a.m., and the costume contest will start at 1 p.m. The categories include the cutest, the spookiest, and the most original. As for prizes, there will be a first, second, and third place winner in all three categories, and then the audience will vote on the best overall winner. The overall winner will receive a gift card from PETCO."
She added that, at the same time, there will be a shelter pet showcase for pets from the shelter in need of foster homes or adoption.
"We'll have anywhere from 30-40 dogs and 40-50 cats available at any time, and the adoption fees will range from $10 to $25, which is calculated by how long they have been at the shelter," Wilson noted.
Adoption applicants are screened to make sure pets go to good homes. Thus, in case adopters' landlords are not available by phone, the prospective applicant should bring a copy of a lease agreement to show proof pets are allowed, an ID, and contact information for three references. For those people who currently have pets, it's helpful if they bring proof of current vaccinations to make sure everybody is compliant with state and local laws.
For those interested in a reduced spayed or neutered rate, on November 12, vouchers will be available on a first come first serve basis. The cost will be $25 for cats and $50 for dogs.
