"The Voice" Star Performs in Downtown San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — Austin Allsup said he was grateful for the opportunity to compete on NBC’s The Voice, a music talent competition and reality show. “I hope it furthers my career and gets my original music heard on a much larger platform,” he said last night as he and his band loaded their gear onto the stage at Blaine’s Pub, 10 W. Harris Ave.

Allsup has been a regular staple at Blaine’s over the years. Allsup has been performing professionally for 12 years, he said. “I’ve been very blessed to be able to make a living here in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas,” he said. Allsup performs about 150 shows a year on the Texas Country Music circuit.

Allsup, who comes from a family of musicians in Fort Worth, said he’s been singing in front of audiences since he was eight years old at church. But he notes that it was a humble upbringing.

Allsup reminisced about working jobs in construction to keep playing his music during the leaner times. He laid tile and hardwood flooring for many years just to keep funding his music. Looking forward, as Allsup’s profile rises on the national stage, he said he would stay true to his roots.

“I hope to stay true to my family, my fans and to God. I’ll always put Him first and I’ll probably end up where I’m supposed to be,” he said. Next week Allsup said The Voice is entering the “Knockout Rounds.” . Allsup said everyone can follow along with him next week or the week after. He is part of country music star Blake Shelton’s team. So far, six of #TeamBlake’s 14 contestants have been eliminated.

Allsup gave the large and appreciative crowd at Blaine’s an outstanding show Thursday night featuring his full band. Visit the Blaine’s Pub website for future shows of up-and-coming Texas music artists.
