2nd Annual BBQ Cook-Off and Car Show Benefiting Rust Street Ministries

SAN ANGELO, TX - There's just something about the change of season and cooler weather that seems to rejuvenate the soul. In an effort to get more people out and about, San Angeloans have really stepped it up over the past few weeks offering countless events for the general public to attend. As an added bonus, many of these events' proceeds have been benefiting various local charities.

One of the larger scheduled events will take place tomorrow at Associate Supply Company (ASCO), located at 700 Knickerbocker Road. ASCO will be hosting its 2nd Annual BBQ Cook-off and Car Show benefiting Rust Street Ministries. RSM is a non-profit organization dedicated to contributing to the spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical needs of the community by various means.

Event spokesperson Cody Blair said, "We'll have something for everybody. Besides the car show and cook-off, there will also be a silent auction, and barbeque plates for sale. With the car show, there will be classic cars to the newer ones, motorcycles, and even an off-road category, with trophies for the winners."

Blair stressed that the cook-off is not a sanctioned event; anyone can participate. Categories include brisket, chicken and pork ribs. The grand prize winner will receive a custom made silver belt buckle made by Montana Silversmith. There will also be a separate Jalapeno Popper contest with a $20 entry fee, and that's just a 'winner takes all.' The forms and details are on their Facebook event page. People can even sign up the day of the show.

Last time, Blair estimated they had 20-25 teams.

This year, so far, around 15 teams have already signed up," Blair said last week.

He added, "We'll also have a silent auction of items donated by local businesses."

Regarding the event, Blair said this event is a way to give back to the community "and help build it into something better than what we have now."

Gates will open at 10 a.m. to the public, and the event will run until 2 p.m.

Blair said, "The cooks can come in Friday evening, set up, and even stay overnight. ASCO will be cooking all of the briskets for the plate sales, which go for $10 each, so we'll be out there all night with the guys anyway."

Blair said he hopes everybody will come out and support a great cause while having fun.

"And we want to see as many bodies as we can fit in out there," he added.
