SAN ANGELO, TX - For many, Halloween is their favorite holiday. Younger children look forward to school festivals and Trick or Treating, and teens and young adults favor haunted houses, ghost stories and watching scary movies.
Although stories of the 'undead' have been around for centuries, it wasn't until a more modernized video version appeared on MTV 34 years ago that mesmerized viewers with the idea of zombification; hence Michael Jackson's Thriller. Regardless if you love or hate MJ, no party is complete without at least one playing.

In keeping with the theme, San Angelo's own Dazzling Dames will be hosting a Zombie Prom on Friday, October 28, at the Chadbourne Tavern, located at 115 S. Chadbourne.
DD President and event coordinator Princess Vixen, said "Guests are encouraged to come dressed as zombies. There will be finger foods and door prizes, as well as a contest for the best Zombie King and Queen."
Princess is a plus size pin up model whose mission in life is to encourage the loving of oneself and giving to others (more here). Her organization's membership of beauties is increasing daily, and rapidly becoming a household name in the community for hosting benefits to bless worthy causes.
Always looking for ways to give back in the community, Princess said, "From now until the end of the month, our group is collecting non-perishable food items to benefit Meals for the Elderly."
Some examples of items include canned goods, pasta, sugar, flour, cereal, peanut butter, nuts, dried fruit, crackers, rice, beans, lentils, and chips.
"Drop off locations are listed on the flier," she added.
Princess said the collection will wrap up on Friday, October 28, at the prom, and the cost of admittance is a non-perishable food item (s).
She added, "It's a fun ending to the month-long food drive."
Then, on Sunday, October 30, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the DD will hold their 2nd Annual Dia de los Muertos celebration at Kirby Park, 1401 Edmund Blvd. Day of the Dead is a multi-day holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
On behalf of her organization, Princess said, "We feel it's important to celebrate the different cultures here in San Angelo. Last year's festival was extremely successful, and this one will be free to the public as well. We will have a Catrina Pageant starting at 11:30 a.m. for kids through adults age 32, which is also free to enter."
She added, "There will be vendors selling everything from food, crafts, clothes, and so much more. Cosplayers from 'One Perfect Party' will be there dressed as your favorite characters, so there will be plenty of photo ops. There will also be two Folklorico groups performing: St. Vincent's Folklorico out of Abilene, and another Folklorico group from San Antonio. We're also super excited to have two different Belly Dance groups: one locally, and one from Midland."
Additionally, in keeping with the tradition of the celebration, there will be an altar for people to bring photos of their loved ones to display in memoriam.
So mark your calendars San Angelo, Halloween is no longer a one-day event.
