Legendary Beach Boys Bring Good Vibrations to San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX - Wednesday night, the Foster Communications Coliseum hosted a momentous event that will linger in the hearts and minds of around 4,000 spectators for a long time. The legendary Beach Boys put on a concert that was nothing less than pure perfection. Even after 50 years of performing, front men Mike Love and Bruce Johnston hit every note, lyric and move that were 100 percent on point. All eight band members played and sang their hearts out, and it was like a trip back in time to when they first arrived on the music scene in the early 1960s.

Amongst the sea of Hawaiian print shirts, Bermuda shorts, baby blue leis, and beach shoes, concert goers beamed with joy as San Angelo finally had a huge act come to town. All age groups were represented, from the rambunctious elementary aged kids running to and fro to keep the gigantic beach ball in the air to the more mature adults who literally watched the Beach Boys evolve on their black and white televisions from day one.

Chris Stone, president of Stone Settle Advertising in San Angelo, said his good friend Ron Knight had bought a VIP ticket for his mother Midgie, who was the band's biggest fan, and coincidentally celebrating her 94th birthday.

Mike Hooker, administrate assistant at College Hills Animal Hospital, hit the jackpot with his admission ticket. He said Concho Valley Homepage had run a contest and he won.

Hooker said, "My friend Jerry Jackson and I have a band called the 'Rockin' Chairs' and I submitted a video playing 'California Girls.'"

It was Hooker's first time to see the band, but the best part was, earlier that day, he and a guest were treated to a Meet and Greet, and they got to dine and hang out with the band.

With a proud smile, Hooker said, "I gave one of my demo tapes to Bruce Johnston, to which he replied, 'Thanks! We will listen to it and enjoy it..'"

Hooker added that Livin' Moon Studio has a few of his band's songs if anyone would like to hear more of what they have to offer.

The band played everything from Little Deuce Coupe to Surfin' U.S.A. Fans sang along, substituted the old school lighter waving with cell phone lights to the slower songs, and danced to their favorites.

The band went on around 7:45 p.m., and after an hour, took a brief intermission. Some more "mature" concert goers started to leave, thinking it was over, but happily turned back, reclaiming their seats, as word spread there was more to come.

All in all, it was a tremendous event, and now that event organizers have seen San Angeloans' willingness to attend such concerts, it was unanimous: we can hardly wait to see what's next.

Stan West with Creative Eventz had said in a previous interview (click here), if all goes well, more acts will come our way, so we wait with bated breath.
