On August 22, the Abilene Zoo will host its first Senior Citizen Day. The day is dedicated to providing those young at heart a unique opportunity to experience the zoo.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and interact with the more than 100 animals of 270 species housed at the zoo. For those who cannot explore the park on foot, they will be able to enjoy $1 unlimited rides on the Safari Express. Wheelchairs will also be available rent at the Zoo Store.
Refreshments will be provided by the Abilene Regional Medical Center and Wisteria Place Retirement Living. Visitors will also enjoy the musical stylings of The Piano Man, Abilene’s very own Mike Schuler who will be performing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Discounts will also be available at the Watering Hole.
Closer interactions will be available with certain animals at a variety of animal shows.
Here is the following schedule:
10 a.m.–Reptile encounter in the Reptile House.
11 a.m. – Spider Monkey Keeper Chat.
Noon - Animal encounter in front of Bird Gardens.
1 p.m. – Raven Encounter at Bird Gardens.
2 p.m. Colobus Monkey Keeper Chat.
The Abilene Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week. Regular admission tickets are $7 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 3-12, $6 for seniors aged 60 and older.
