Corey Hunt Band Returns to Blaine's Pub This Friday Night

This Friday, July 22, Corey Hunt and Eric Wise, better known as "The Corey Hunt Band" will take the Blaine's Pub stage at 10 p.m..

"The last time we were in Texas, in April, we played Blaine's and opened up for Blue Water Highway. [We] are really looking forward to this show," said singer/songwriter Hunt.

We all have our favorite songs, and sometimes musicians appear to be telling our own stories. Whether it be a song about sorrow, travels, or just hanging out with good friends, music is the undisputed international language we all speak. One of the perks of being an artist is the freedom to express the ever evolving story of these journeys in life, and Hunt is a prime example of what it means to "evolve." He referred to some of his old songs that told of past heartaches.

"That was when I was just starting out, but now life is good and it reflects so in my newer music," Hunt explained.

For many years, the North Carolina duo have been creating their own brand of Southern Folk Rock, building quite a fan base. Completely independent and self managed, they've traveled from Arizona to Pennsylvania and countless states in between.

"It's a full time job," said Hunt. " Today we're in North Carolina, tomorrow Nashville, and then San Angelo on Friday; after that, every evening is pretty much booked for the next few days with several gigs throughout Texas.

When it comes to fan reception in different parts of the U.S., Hunt said, "It's definitely different. When you call something country nowadays, people automatically think you're part of the mainstream top 40 that we have on the radio. You're gonna get some guys in 'Red Dirt' music [who] are a little more Rock 'n' Roll, and then some [who] are more Classic Country, but Red Dirt kind of includes some of the categories that the per se genre 'country music' doesn't include anymore."

Hunt added that he's been traveling around playing for 6.5 years now, and has had no formal music training.

"I didn't sing or play anything until I got into college," Hunt noted. "When I was in high school, my life kind of revolved around sports. I was always into music and different types of music, and, one day, I just picked up a guitar and decided to write a song; now here we are."

About two weeks ago, the Corey Hunt Band proudly released their latest single "Explain" on Texas Red Dirt Radio. The video has 4.7K views already and fans unanimously said, "Well done!"

Since there are only two members in the band, people automatically assume theirs are all acoustic sets.

"It's not 'acoustic;' it's a full band vibe that just happens to be two people; ya just gotta see and hear it," said Hunt.

As for Friday's performance, Hunt added, "We take requests of our own music, and have enough that we don't have to play the same thing every night, so come to the show. If there's something you like, let us know!"
