Country Music at Its Finest This Weekend at Midnight Rodeo

Midnight Rodeo has featured many bands just starting out in their careers, and even some who credit playing their venue for their "big break" onto the Texas country music charts.

Curtis Grimes is one of those rising artists who grew up in east Texas and has played the San Angelo club many times. His EP, "Bottom of the Fifth," pays tribute to his baseball background, which has taken a back seat to his fast paced rise to stardom in his musical career.

Danny Milstead, Entertainment Director and DJ, said, "He (Grimes) plays ballads and upbeat music, waltzes and fast two steps, as well as polkas and jitterbug music, sure to please all."

Grimes has played in fairs, civic centers, and night clubs, and even opened for Texas artists such as Randy Rogers and Aaron Watson. His list of many accomplishments includes opening for Kenny Chesney, competing on the first season of The Voice under the guidance of CeeLo Green, and coming in second place in the first season of Nashville Star.

Milstead said, "It’s always good to see him back in the house."

In true Texas southern gentleman form, Grimes stays faithful to his roots having grown up with listening to the likes of Alan Jackson, George Strait and Merle Haggard. Although his website has options to download his music, check tour dates, watch videos, and purchase merchandise, perhaps his statement to fans summarizes him best: "Pray for the well being of our country and take care out there, love y'all!"

Grimes will perform two shows at MR tonight, beginning at 10:30 p.m., and then next Friday, April 15th.

"Be sure to visit his merchandise booth at the club, as he will have everything from t-shirts, to koozies, to CDs," said Milstead. "That's the good thing about our bands. They'll hang out after the event showing they really care about their fans and don't mind autographing items or posing for pictures."

On Saturday night, April 9th, Case Hardin, a native San Angeloan, will also take the stage.

"For only being 21, this young man has acquired quite a following already, and we are glad to have him as well," said Milstead. "His fans are amazed with how well he covers internationally known artists’ songs, such as George Strait.”

Hardin's YouTube videos also have several thousand views, including "Deep Blue Me" and "Chance to Dance;" and, if you love "Pure Country" music, he is the one who will put San Angelo on the map one day.

The venue charges a nominal fee for general admission, but if some of their regular VIP patrons want to call ahead and make reservations, the staff will accommodate them as well with seating arrangements. People 18 years of age and up are invited as long as they have a valid photo ID, Military, State issue ID, drivers license, as well as passports are acceptable. MR is open for business: Thursdays and Fridays from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m., and Saturdays from 7 p.m.- 2 a.m. There is also a "dress code" posted at the door and security is on site.

"We just want everyone to have a good time and be safe," said Milstead.
