Shenanigan’s Sports Bar & Grill will be welcoming a George Strait tribute band to its stage Saturday night. For the King George Band, this will be their first show in San Angelo and the excitement level is pretty high.
Chris McIuan, manager and founder of the King George Band, stated, “I have heard nothing but great things about Tom Green County and what awesome, true country music fans you have out there!”
McIuan has previously played with numerous tribute bands in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. As a result, putting together a tribute to the “King” came easily.
“It’s fun to be able to re-create these songs just like the record and present them to hardcore Strait fans because we are hardcore Strait fans too,” McIuan stated.
The current lineup includes Todd Hanby (drums), Robbie Saunders (steel guitar), Steve Farrington (keyboards/vocals), Linda Relph (fiddle), Jacob Dill (bass), Leland Rooney (lead guitar), and Dusty Deaton (lead vocals/acoustic guitar); all from the DFW area.
In regards to Saturday night’s upcoming show, the King George Band “hopes to see everyone singing every word while two-stepping and having a good time.”
According to McIuan, George Strait fans can expect to hear a wide variety of hits. He said, “Every Strait song we do is a number one, but it is very challenging trying to squeeze them all in because there are so many. We try to do our best in covering to a spectrum by playing songs from the first record in 1981, Strait Country, all the way to the most current stuff.”
The King George Band will take the Shenanigan’s stage at 9:45 p.m. A $5 cover is all it takes to get in the door.
True country music fans will not want to miss this show. McIuan said, “We’re really excited about bringing 60 number one hits your way!”
