Cooking crews from Cooking for Christ were busy from the wee early morning hours Tuesday in the parking lot next to Blaine’s Pub, 10 W. Harris St. cooking turkeys and hams for the annual 4H fundraiser. In all, over 250 turkeys were smoked or fried and 96 hams smoked. The 12-14 pound turkeys sold for $30 to the general public. The 10-pound hams sold for $40.
An additional 16 turkeys were cooked and carved and donated to the San Angelo Salvation Army for their food outreach program for the local homeless.
Proprietor Cody Sturm didn’t have the final figures tabulated, but he anticipates handing a check over to the local 4H clubs in excess of $6,000. That is 33 percent more than last year.
“We were worried Thursday. We only had 120 orders,” Sturm said. Blaine’s got the word out over the Blaine's Pub mobile app and this publication published an article Saturday morning. “People just kept calling,” Sturm said. He cut off the orders Monday afternoon. “We had to cut it off at some point,” he said.
