Angelo State University theatre students are gearing up for their presentation of the romantic drama, “The Shape of Things,” which will show Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5, in the ASU Studio Theatre, said a press release Monday.
According to the press release, performances will be at 8 p.m. each night in the Studio located in Room 241A of the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive. The production is free and open to the public.
“The Shape of Things,” a 2001 play written by American playwright and film director Neil LaBute, first premiered in London with Paul Rudd and Rachel Weisz in the leading roles. Set in a small Midwest university town, the play centers on the lives of four students who become emotionally and romantically involved with each other. The themes of the play include the nature of love and what people are willing to do for that love, as well as stoicism, art, psychopathy and intimacy. The play was also made into a move in 2003.
The press release stated that the student cast of ASU’s production of “The Shape of Things” comprise of Nick Cline as Adam, Arianna Gonzales as Evelyn, DeMetri Mareno as Philip and Taylor Dabbs as Jenny. Senior theatre major Jacob Scott is the director.
Additionally, Mike Burnett, assistant professor of theatre and assistant director of ASU’s University Theatre, is the scenic designer. Student crewmembers include Jordon Shocklee, stage manager/props; Jose Villedas, lighting design; Brittani Beggs, costume design; and Daniel Coyle, sound design/projections design. Coyle, Bryce Read, Andrea Perez and Jaslyn Diaz are also serving as understudies and stagehands, stated the press release. Leslie Schniers, Mason Gable and Tristan Salinas are stagehands and backstage crew.
