Candy, games, hot dogs and a haunted house will be on hand at the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office on Halloween as the department hosts its first ever trunk-or-treat.
The event, organized by lieutenants Stacye Speck and Keith Muncey, is free and open to revelers of all ages, ranging from infants to adults. Some deputies will be present in uniform, while others will be dressed in costume. Varying game stations with treats for prizes, a haunted house and the trunk-or-treat out of patrol cars will be set up in the parking lot, with parking available across the street or along the curb.
“We got the good candy,” Lt. Speck laughed. “We’ve got every kind of candy you can think of.”
The festivities will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the east side of the sheriff’s office building, located at 222 W. Harris.
“It’s so community friendly, and it’s a safe place for the children to get candy,” Lt. Speck said of the event. “Society is getting so bad nowadays that you can’t really trust people unless you know them. We want the community to know that they can trust us; they can bring the children up there and it will be a free, safe time for them to be able to meet people from the community and have a great time.”
