Rosenfeld (Class of 2002) has written a touching and deeply funny exploration of a young woman’s journey after a diagnosis of breast cancer in “keepingabreast.” The play follows 28-year-old Mina, who has two weeks to decide whether to have a mastectomy or risk the return of cancer, as she explores the personal and cultural value of women’s breasts. Since premiering in New York City in 2006, “keepingabreast” has been staged twice more in New York and at theatres in Colorado Springs and Lubbock.
Directed by Dr. William Doll, director of University Theatre and a professor of ASU’s Visual and Performing Arts Department, the play will feature projections and scenic design by former ASU technical director Matt Smith, who is now pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Texas. Matt Chilcoat, ASU’s technical director and resident scenic and lighting designer, is the production’s lighting designer.
The student cast includes Sabrina Idom as Mina, Dimitri Miller as Man 1, Adam Rich as Man 2, Arianna Gonzalez as Woman 1 and Kala Young as Woman 2. Julia McDaniel, Nick Cline and Taylor Dabbs will serve as understudies.
