Complete with back up dancers and fully automated light show, Seek Irony returns to San Angelo this weekend. The band will play two shows, the first at Concho’s Downtown tonight (all-ages show), and Deadhorse on Saturday night.
Their record Tech n’Roll that released Feb. 3 captures an electronica/rock feel reminiscent of KMFDM.
“We have two kinds of audiences in San Angelo. We have teenagers on one hand and we have the older folks on the other,” Kfir Gov, Seek Irony vocalist said. “We had to develop a way for our under 21 crowd to get to see the show. Our fans are the ones who actually told us Concho’s would be the venue where we could make that happen, so it just worked, we are really excited to come back this time and do that.”
Brothers Kfir (vocals) and Rom Gov (drums), band founders, are originally from Tel Aviv, Israel. There they were semi-successful, playing music festivals and clubs, and had a solid fan base. When Seek Irony was offered touring opportunities all over the United States, the brothers decided it would further their careers and be a lot easier to tour here if they lived here.
It took almost two years of planning and preparation prior to making the transition from overseas, but when it finally happened they wasted no time in going to work.
“We restarted everything from scratch when we got to Austin,” said Kfir Gov. “New band members, new studio, new everything. Try to imagine; we moved here, we don’t know anybody, we barely know the city. I mean we had been to Austin in the past and fell in love with it, we had done our homework. But, we were pretty much stalking Facebook randomly for anyone that looked like a musician. And Alex was one of those people.” Kfir recalled.
Alex Campbell is Seek Irony's guitarist, who also just so happens to be a Grammy-nominated musician and a Progressive Rock Hall of Famer. “He is super over-qualified, he’s an amazing musician,” Kfir said. “When he came to the first rehearsal we gave him I think ten songs, within two weeks he nailed like eight of them. So it was really obvious that he would fit musically.”
Kfir and Rom’s desperate Facebook quest for musically talented complementary, band mates also lead them to Adam Donovan (bass), and Mikael Oganes (keyboard/DJ).
“We wanted to work with people that share similar ideas, good chemistry was very important to us,” Kfir said.
“San Angelo rocks, it’s one of the first cities in Texas where we really have a big following that is developing. We are really thankful for that. We hope to see a lot of people out this weekend, we are definitely gonna bring out the show.”
Seek Irony performs Friday night, Feb. 20, at Concho's Downtown, 125 E. Concho Ave. at 9 p.m.
