Poster Contest and Trolley Tours to Celebrate National Planning Month

The City of San Angelo’s Planning and Development Services Department is sponsoring a student poster contest and hosting a downtown trolley tour as part of National Community Planning Month.

The poster contest is open to art students in Glenn, Lee and Lincoln middle schools. Entrants are asked to depict how they imagine San Angelo will look in 10 years. Entries should be turned into the student’s art teacher by Friday, Oct. 17. The student’s name, age, grade and school should be written on the back of the poster.

Entries will be judged by a group of City officials. The winning poster will be displayed in City Hall and its creator will receive a certificate and a gift card at a City Council meeting.

Free trolley tours of downtown will be conducted from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, during the monthly Art Walk. Riders will see the development that is revitalizing San Angelo’s downtown along with engaging in discussions about historical buildings and sites in the central business district. Participants can board and exit a trolley bus at any of 11 designated stops. Printable maps are available at downtownsanangelo.com or in the Planning & Development Services Department in the Community Development Building, 52 W. College Ave.

Mayor Dwain Morrison on Sept. 16 issued a proclamation declaring October as National Community Planning Month in an effort to raise awareness of the important role of planners and planning in San Angelo.
