Chamber to Reserve VIP Tent Tables for Boat Races

On June 9 at 8:30 a.m., the Chamber of Commerce will begin reserving premium table seating in the V.I.P. Tent at the 8th Annual Showdown in San Angelo Drag Boat Races.

This Chamber-facilitated event drew nearly 11,000 spectators to Lake Nasworthy last year, and was viewed by 6 million people from across the country when highlights of the events were nationally televised.

Businesses or groups of spectators may reserve a table under the V.I.P. tent, at the starting line, on the Spring Creek side of Lake Nasworthy, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 & 14.  V.I.P. Tent Tables are $1,000 each and seat eight people.  Each table includes weekend admission and lunch at specified time on Saturday and Sunday for eight, premium transportation from the gate to the V.I.P tent, two cooler passes, and accessibility to the V.I.P. cash bar.

We will be adding a “Test & Tune” on Friday, Sept. 12.  The VIP tent will be open to the general public that day but you will have entry to the “Test & Tune” event with your VIP Badge.  For questions about reserving your space, contact Pamela Miller at the Chamber at 655-4136, ext. 231or by email to [email protected]

Every year I have gone, we have sat in the VIP tent. To put a price on a table like that, is absolutely crazy! I would love to know what their reasoning behind this was.
These folks have realized an opportunity, where there is high demand for a product, and where they are in the driver's seat as to who is able to consume that product, and found those who are willing to buy that product. It's called Capitalism. It's what we do... Dude, I get it. Free is awesome as long as it lasts, but don't just ignore the value of the product. That space is now proven to be primo real estate for those two days at the start line, and it should be commanding a premium. Lots of perks as well for the buyers. Good for them. It all goes to a good cause I'm sure. And since I'm lazy and don't like to write, I'll say BS to the buzzard picture for the other story. Go Hawks. :-)
Each Table sits up to 8!! That's only $125 per seat!! Price includes 3 day pass, served lunch, 2 cooler passes, and a ride to the tent from parking!! The tent is on the starting line and has a great view down the marina!! Sounds like some cheap fun to me, not ridiculously priced at all!! Oh, I'm with Mark on this one too, Go Hawks!!
I hope this sets a new trend for the boat races. I - for one - enjoy spectating at this event, but I don't often attend because it's a hundred and stooopid outside! September seems like a great time to host this event! As for the picture in question, it really IS a buzzard (common buzzard) which is a member of the hawk and eagle family (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_buzzard). Now, vultures, on the other hand....
