LIVE! VIDEO: Grape Creek ISD Breaks Ground on Major Elementary School Construction Project

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Students and faculty in the Grape Creek Independent School District joined several community members to officially break ground on phase four of a major upgrade to the aging elementary school Thursday afternoon.

According to Grape Creek ISD superintendent Angie Smetana, the district held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the final phase of the 2018 bond project.

The final phase of the 2018 bond project is to completely upgrade the decades old elementary school facility.

The primary focus of the project, as determined by the administration, Elementary School Facility Committee and the Board of Trustees, is to increase safety, create a better student learning environment, and provide additional space to accommodate future growth.

The major components of the new construction and improvements include:

  • 18 additional classrooms through new construction and renovation
  • New facility entrance and office area to ensure safer entry and exit for students, staff, and parents.
  • Fully enclosed facilities - removal of portable buildings
  • State-of-the-art fire protection and warning system
  • Improvements and renovation of the existing facilities

The building is expected to be complete within the next 12 months.
