WATCH: Angelo State Breaks Ground on the Mayer Museum

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Angelo State is currently building a new museum in the heart of the campus thanks to the generosity of the Mayer family.

Throughout the Angelo State Campus, you will see one name on many of the buildings. That name is Mayer. This family of Angelo State alumni has donated everything from the baseball facilities to the administration building itself, dating all the way back to Sol Mayer, who also gifted the Boy Scouts Camp Sol Mayer.  

The latest Mayer family philanthropy is directed towards the arts. With their $14 million donation, Angelo State is building a brand new museum to host a number of items from around west Texas. 

The main exhibits will be from the West Texas Collection that is comprised of art and historical artifacts from around West Texas. The collection is currently on the top floor of the University Center but it will soon have its own building. 

Another item in the museum will be a replica of a full T-rex dinosaur. This will bring an eye-pop to the museum in hopes of attracting people from across the state. 

The Museum is scheduled to be completed by September. The official grand opening date will be announced soon.
