SAN ANGELO, TX - The Angelo State University Percussion Ensemble will present its annual fall concert on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building at 2602 Dena Drive.
The concert will take place in the Carr EFA Building's Eldon Black Recital Hall and is open and free to the public. It will showcase the talents of ASU music/percussion students through a program that captures the full range of the percussive world.
The musical selections to be performed include some of the most captivating works in contemporary percussion ensemble repertoire:
- "Mudra" by Bob Becker - A powerful composition known for its intricate polyrhythms and complex layers that draws on a diverse set of global rhythms, creating a musical tapestry that is both intense and mesmerizing.
- "Omphalo Centric Lecture" by Nigel Westlake - A unique combination of rhythm and melody that explores the relationship between the two in innovative and dynamic ways. Both playful and sophisticated, it pushes the boundaries of percussive storytelling.
- "Trio Per Uno" by Nebojsa Zivkovic - A thrilling, high-energy piece that showcases the physicality and precision of percussion performance. It's favored for its raw energy and engaging interplay between musicians.
- "Travelling Carnival" by Joe Porter - Takes the audience on a journey through a whimsical and vibrant sonic carnival, bringing a festive atmosphere and celebrating the diverse sounds and textures that percussion can offer.
The ASU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Trent Shuey, is dedicated to exploring the vast array of percussive music, spanning traditional and contemporary styles. The ensemble performs regularly on campus and in the community, providing students with a platform to develop their skills and share their passion for music with a wide audience.
