SAN ANGELO, TX — Crayola, Walmart, and "Schoolgirl Style" teamed up to give the San Angelo ISD Crockett Elementary teacher lounge a "much-needed makeover."
Crayola, Walmart, and Schoolgirl Style have announced this is part of a new initiative to give teachers’ lounges across the country a creative refresh in recognition of educators' "relentless dedication."
"The teachers’ lounge makeovers acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional influence that teachers have on students and the community," information stated. "They make a profound difference in the lives of others."
Through this collaboration, Crockett Elementary has been selected as a winning school to receive a complete makeover for its teachers’ lounge, creating a more "colorful and inspiring space for educators."
The school unveiled its updated teachers’ lounge on Wednesday, April 24.
“We appreciate everything our teachers do for our students,” said Sherry Luce, store manager at Walmart 7281 in San Angelo. “We know they use their own resources in many cases. It was wonderful to be able to give back to them.”
Crockett Elementary was one of twelve schools selected nationwide to receive a complete makeover for their teacher lounge as part of Crayola Creativity Week’s Creative Teachers Sweepstakes.
According to information, Crayola Creativity Week is a free program that brings more than six million children together globally across six continents and 100 countries.
Throughout the week, educators can access fun, engaging, and creative activities with their students, including hands-on, educational activity videos led by celebrities, downloadable handouts, daily prizes, a livestream virtual assembly to connect with other creative classrooms, and more. All content is aligned to education standards and was translated into eight languages.
To keep the creative fun going beyond Creativity Week, Crayola provided the school with $1,000 worth of Crayola art supplies. Melanie Ralbusky, the founder of Schoolgirl Style, was formerly a classroom teacher who knows the importance of teachers having a place in the school to connect and restore their creative mindsets.
She created a series of design boards for the winning schools to choose from to be brought to life in their building. Representatives from Crockett Elementary chose their design, and Crayola provided the school with a $3,000 Walmart.com virtual gift card to purchase the necessary items for the makeover. Walmart community relations also offered the teachers a $1,000 gift card to purchase additional lounge items.
In honor of the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week, volunteers from Crayola and the San Angelo Walmart helped with tasks such as painting, setting up the new furniture, and decorating the teachers’ lounges.
“Crayola Creativity Week supports Crayola’s mission to help parents and educators raise creatively alive children and reflects our deep commitment to nurturing children’s creativity to help them reach their full potential. Creativity is a life skill that improves student outcomes in the classroom and beyond,” said Victoria Lozano, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Crayola. “Educators share our commitment to creativity as kids’ biggest creative champions, giving everything they have to their students. We are thrilled to help support them and help encourage more creativity in schools by giving educators an inspiring space just for them to recharge, collaborate, and restore their own creative energy.”
