San Angelo ISD Communications Team Wins Big

SAN ANGELO, TX -  The San Angelo ISD Communications team won 13 Star Awards at the 2024 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Conference.

TSPRA is a non-profit, professional organization promoting public schools through effective communication.

The award-winning Communications Team includes Jack Wilcox, Creative Director; Alba Banuelos, Secretary; Sun Cha, Director of Community Relations; and Molly Johnson Turk, Executive Director of Communications.

The team received eight Gold Star Awards, three Silver Star Awards, one Bronze Star Award, and one Best of Category Award.

The awards honored work from the previous school year and were announced at TSPRA’s 62nd annual Star Awards Celebration held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas.

“Our Communications Team shines the spotlight on our students, staff, and schools to tell the story of what happens in SAISD,” said Dr. Farrah Gomez, Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer. “From photos, news articles, videos, interviews, and so much more, they capture the moments in time that tell the narrative of our graduates, our youngest learners, and those we are yet to meet. While they are usually behind a camera or a screen, it is a great honor that we recognize them front and center for all of their hard work and dedication to SAISD and the community of San Angelo.”

According to the school district, TSPRA’s annual Star Awards recognizes outstanding school district communicators for their print, electronic, and visual work.

Awards are given in 47 main categories covering various media such as newsletters, programs, posters, writing, photography, video, websites, and more.

Bronze, Silver, and Gold Stars are awarded in each category, and judges review the highest-scoring Gold Star winners to select a Best of Category winner in each category.

Larger, more comprehensive projects are entered in one of ten “Crystal Commendation categories.”
