SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo ISD FFA and 4-H students came together at the Tom Green County 4-H Center for the annual San Angelo ISD Stock Show held this January.
The evening-long competition saw students exhibit an array of livestock, each meticulously prepared for the show.
Livestock were judged based on specific breed traits outlined by their respective breed standards.
Information from the school stated that students spend months of dedication and hard work preparing an animal for exhibition in these shows.
Preparation includes: selecting the breed, age, and structure of the animal; daily care of the animal; and halter breaking and gentling the animal so it becomes accustomed to being handled and led for show. In each livestock category, students competed for Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, and Showmanship.
Notable achievements include:

According to Mr. Parks Tucker, a Career and Technical Education (CTE) agriculture teacher, "Livestock projects teach students to be responsible, critically think, and prepare for contests, plus they learn this is a seven-day-a-week job. This is a great learning opportunity for students."
The San Angelo ISD Stock Show, initiated by Mr. Tucker in 1996 for Lake View High School and its feeder schools, has grown over 27 years to encompass all San Angelo ISD students.
The show continues to provide students with opportunities to enhance communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity skills while instilling important character traits such as responsibility, trustworthiness, and caring.
San Angelo ISD extends gratitude to the supporters of the Stock Show, including David and Stacie Kinsey, The May Family, Jeremiah and Amber Trevino, and the Concho Bass Club.
