San Angelo ISD Reports Decline in Student Enrollment for 23-24 School Year

SAN ANGELO, TX — In a recent update, Dr. Merl Brandon, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Support Services and Chief Financial Officer for San Angelo ISD, presented the latest student enrollment report.

According to the report, the total student enrollment on Nov. 27, 2023, the 14th Monday of the 2023-24 school year, was 13,180, indicating a decrease of 326 students compared to the same period last year.

The student enrollment reports, compiled daily during the initial 12 days of the school year and subsequently on the first day of each week, are a routine practice within SAISD, according to information from the school.

These reports are then presented monthly to the school board during their regular meetings.

Dr. Brandon highlighted that the first six weeks of the current school year recorded a 95.5 percent attendance rate, a slight increase from the 94.5 percent attendance rate during the same period in 2022.

On the third Tuesday of the 2023 school year, enrollment figures were reported at 13,159 students, showing an uptick to 13,180 by the 14th Monday.

Analyzing attendance rates, Dr. Brandon noted a positive trend. The second six weeks of the previous semester began at a 93.6 percent attendance rate and rose to 95.3 percent.

In response to the enrollment decrease, Dr. Brandon emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance attendance. Monthly meetings are held with school principals to strategize and ensure the district is on track to meet its attendance goals.
