San Angelo ISD Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff Honored

SAN ANGELO, TX - After 15 years of steadfast leadership, Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff bid farewell to the San Angelo ISD at the district’s last meeting.

This fall marked Dr. Dethloff's 33rd year in Texas Public Schools, with the past nine years dedicated to serving as the superintendent in San Angelo ISD.

In his retirement, Dr. Dethloff will continue to support public education as he will work with a non-profit education organization in Texas that exclusively represents the interests of children and provides fair funding levels for school districts and teachers.

The Board of Trustees and the entire San Angelo community expressed their gratitude for his significant contributions to education in the region.

In recognition of his unwavering commitment, the board presented Dr. Dethloff with a commemorative plaque during the ceremony.

“He has served as an influential public-school leader and a positive example for students, families, staff, and community leaders,” information from the school district states. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Dethloff for his service.”

“It is important that we reflect on the fact that over the last nine years, we have had COVID changes, funding issues, teacher shortages and Dr. Dethloff’s constant guidance with a steady hand and a very caring and fair heart has been paramount to the success of our district,” Board President Dr. Taylor Kingman said.

“Dr. Dethloff has been the captain of our ship for probably the last nine years,” Board Treasurer Bill Dendle said. “But more than that he has been the rudder of the ship. He has helped guide the district through several significant adversities that public education has never faced before. Because of that, SAISD is able to more now for their children than nine years ago.”

Dr. Dethloff then spoke once he received praise from the board.

He reiterated a conversation that he had with his wife, Judy, previously, Dr. Dethloff said.

“We both agree that moving to San Angelo ISD 15 years ago was simply the best decision that we’ve ever made,” he said. “I am most proud of the doors of opportunity that we have opened for many of our students. I just want to thank our Board of Trustees for allowing me the opportunity to serve this stellar system for 15 years. It's been a true honor, and I just wanted to thank you for that opportunity.”

Dr.Dethloff ended his comment with his “favorite quote.”

“Surround yourself with those that lift you up, those that are smarter and wiser than you,” he said. “And I have certainly done that, being a team member in San Angelo.”
