Ft. Concho Student-Authors Celebrate Publishing Book

SAN ANGELO, TX - In an initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and civic pride, Keep San Angelo Beautiful hosted a book signing event at Fort Concho Elementary yesterday.

The event celebrated the recent publication of "ABC 26 Ways to Keep San Angelo Beautiful," a book conceived and written by Mrs. Fluitt’s third grade class from Fort Concho Elementary.

The brainchild behind the project, Fort Concho Elementary student Cash Coy, had the idea to showcase the beauty of San Angelo through the eyes of its youngest residents.

Executive Director for Keep San Angelo Beautiful, Charlotte Anderson, worked closely with the students throughout the creation of the book, which not only features the students' written contributions but also includes their illustrations.

During the book signing event, attendees had the unique opportunity to obtain autographs from the proud student authors.

A total of 12,000 copies of the book have already been distributed, making it a widespread community endeavor.

The outreach extended beyond Fort Concho Elementary, as every elementary student in both the San Angelo ISD and Wall ISD received a complimentary copy.

Additionally, private schools and the City of San Angelo were included in the distribution.

“We just want to highlight our students,” Anderson said. “We are so proud of the work they did and what they accomplished in this book. It captured every icon in the city from the sheep, Fort Concho, The Cactus Hotel, the river, the lilies, and Don’t Mess With Texas.

“This is really going to transform our community,” she said. “These kids are definitely aware, and some of have even taken a pledge, to never litter and recycle when they can. That’s what it's all about for us, changing the landscape in San Angelo and getting our kids involved to foster a love for the environment.”
