SAN ANGELO, TX – A law firm out of Houston has been selected by the San Angelo ISD school board to help in the search for a new superintendent.
According to the San Angelo Independent School District, on Monday, July 17, 2023 during the Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees voted in favor of selecting Thompson & Horton, LLC, a consulting and law firm, to facilitate a superintendent search.
The firm will assist in finding and hiring a new superintendent to replace Dr. Carl Dethloff who announced he is retiring in December 2023. Thompson & Horton, LLC has facilitated superintendent searches for districts across Texas including Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Kerrville ISD, McKinney ISD and Northside ISD.
While not exclusively a search firm, Thompson & Horton, LLC specializes in helping Texas school districts find superintendent candidates. They began conducting candidate searches 22 years ago and have conducted more than 200 successful contracted searches. Thompson & Horton, LLC will assist the Board of Trustees through the superintendent search process, looking at both internal and external candidates.
Thompson & Horton, LLC will lead a thorough superintendent search and selection process including opportunities for community involvement to find the most qualified candidates for superintendent. The tentative timeline for the search is as follows:
- July: The firm will begin advertising the job posting. Ads would be placed on state education job boards and potentially national websites.
- September: Community input opportunities will be made available to our constituents to build a profile for the next superintendent.
- October: The board will determine a list of candidates to interview from the applicants gathered by Thompson & Horton, LLC.
- December: The candidate would be hired and ready to assume the role.
- December: Dr. Dethloff’s retirement goes into effect.
The San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees looks forward to collaborating with Thompson & Horton, LLC through the superintendent search process to find a strong candidate who supports our West Texas values and creates a culture that continues to develop students into future-ready graduates.
