SAN ANGELO, TX — Two of Angelo State University's Master of Science (M.S.) in psychology degree programs have been ranked among the best and most affordable in the nation for 2023 by multiple higher education resource guides.
Angelo State's M.S. in counseling psychology degree is a 60-credit-hour program that is offered on campus in an in-person format. It prepares students to become licensed psychological associates (LPA) or licensed professional counselors (LPC). It recently earned the following national ranking:
- Intelligent.com - No. 1 and "Intelligent Pick" among the "Top 38 Master's in Psychology Degree Programs"
ASU's M.S. in applied psychology degree requires 36 credit hours and is offered totally online. An undergraduate degree in psychology is not required for admission to the program. It recently earned the following national rankings:
- CollegeValuesOnline.com - No. 2 among the "Master's in Psychology Online: Top 20 Values"
- BestValueSchools.org - No. 3 among the "46 Best Master's in Psychology Programs"
- CollegeChoice.net - No. 5 among the "Best Online Master's in Psychology Degrees"
- NonprofitCollegesOnline.com - No. 9 on the "Best Online Master's in Psychology Programs: Students Before Profits Award" list
Additionally, ASU has been ranked No. 21 among the 2023 "A-List Schools" offering the "Best Online Psychology Master's Programs" by PublicServiceDegrees.org.

All of the guides use similar criteria for their rankings, including accreditation, quality, length of the program, tuition costs, online accessibility (if applicable), school reputation, and return on investment. Data sources include the U.S. Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics, school websites, and other ranking entities like U.S. News and World Report.
ASU has also added a new Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in counseling psychology degree program that is offered on campus and prepares students for high-demand careers as licensed psychologists.
