SAN ANGELO – San Angelo residents gathered at Ft. Concho Monday morning for the annual Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony featuring patriotic music, a keynote speech and cannon and a rifle volley solute to remember and honor the fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and the United States of America.
The Texas Division of the Salvation Army band started the event at 8:45 am.
This year’s featured speaker was Lt. Col. John McAllister, commander of the 344th military intelligence battalion of the U.S. Army at Goodfellow Air Force Base. The Fort Concho Living History Program and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans provided the color guard and salutes.
The program is organized by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
