SAN ANGELO, TX – Angelo State University will host the 38th annual San Angelo Ceramic Symposium on Friday, April 21, from 1:30-4 p.m. in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building at 2602 Dena Drive.
Co-sponsored by ASU and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA), the symposium will take place in Room 101 of the Carr EFA Building and is free and open to the public. This year's panelists will include:
- Brad Schwieger, professor of art/ceramics, Ohio University
- Roy Hanscom, Houston-based ceramicist and author
- Hayun Surl, assistant professor in ceramics, Angelo State University
- Ariel Bowman, manager of the Concho Clay Studio, SAMFA
Alex Freeman, SAMFA director, will act as moderator for the symposium.
In addition to the symposium, ASU will co-host several other events in support of SAMFA's annual San Angelo Ceramics Weekend that will also include various workshops, as well as art exhibits at Fort Concho and several galleries on Oakes Street downtown.
The schedule of events on Thursday, April 20, includes:
- 9-11:45 a.m. - Free Ceramic Workshop by Ariel Bowman, ASU Mayer Museum
- 1-5 p.m. - Ceramic Workshop with Brandy Brodnax, Chicken Farm Art Center, $25 per person
- 4-5 p.m. - Clay and Play with Hayun Surl, SAMFA
Activities on Friday, April 21, will include:
- 9-11:30 a.m. - Free Ceramic Workshop with Hayun Surl, SAMFA
- 1:30-4 p.m. - 38th Annual Ceramic Symposium, ASU Carr EFA Building
- 5-8 p.m. - Opening Receptions at Oakes Street Galleries
Activities on Saturday, April 22, will include:
- 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Invited Artist Workshop with Roy Hanscom, Chicken Farm Art Center, $45 per person, $25 for students
- 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Exhibitions at Oakes Street Galleries
- 7 p.m. - Texas BBQ Dinner and Dance, Chicken Farm Art Center, $17 per person
