Angelo State University Production "Equus" Tickets on Sale

SAN ANGELO – University Theatre at Angelo State University will present the Tony Award-winning drama "Equus" for its first production of the spring, beginning Thursday, March 2, in the ASU Modular Theatre inside the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building at 2602 Dena Drive.

Show times will be at 8 p.m. each night March 2-4 and 9-11, with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on March 12.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for non-ASU students, and free for ASU students, ASU activity card holders and Arts at ASU subscribers. Tickets are available for purchase online at asurams.hometownticketing.com/embed/all or through the ASU box office in the Carr EFA Building.

"Equus" centers on Dr. Martin Dysart, a psychiatrist, who is confronted with Alan Strang, a boy who has blinded six horses in a violent fit of passion. This very passion is as foreign to Dysart as the act itself. To the boy's parents, it is a hideous mystery as Alan has always adored horses. To Dysart, it is a psychological puzzle that leads both doctor and patient to a complex and disturbingly dramatic confrontation.

An international success, "Equus" has also won Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, a New York Drama Critics' Award and a Theatre World Award. It was adapted for a 1977 movie starring Richard Burton and Peter Firth, and it reached new acclaim in London and on Broadway when revived in 2008.

Under the direction of Daniel Anderson, director of University Theatre, the ASU student cast includes Nathaniel Brown-Schilling, Grant Jackson, Kate Yantis, Caroline Stout, Johnathan Wheeler, Genesis Garza, Aiden Knight, Levi Chambliss and Catalina Perry, with Mitchell Martinez as understudy.

The student production staff and crew include Kailey Gembler, stage manager; Demetrius Armstrong, assistant stage manager; Gabby Flores, assistant stage manager; Darcy Saucedo, scenic designer; Jake Cisneros, assistant scenic designer; Emma Cullen, lighting designer; Matt Montag, assistant lighting designer/lead electrician; Caroline Stout and Alec Ochoa-Razo, assistant costume designers; Ella Dorris, assistant projection designer; Charlotte Branch, sound designer; August Lackey, assistant sound designer; Angel Pena, props designer; Sam Mulho, assistant props designer; Jasmine Solis and Melissa Surber, scenic painters; Bryer Lindsey and Ryan Ezell, deck crew; Brianna Kincaid, wardrobe supervisor; Kade Lappe, dresser; Mari Troncoso, light board op; Zane Terry, sound board op; Alexis Crawford, house manager; and Xander Cooper, usher.
